I have enjoyed a long, rewarding career as a Board Certified Specialist in Child Language and higher education as a faculty member and administrator of speech-language pathology programs at the University of Houston and the Medical University of South Carolina, including a position at vice president of Trident Technical College. My international focus has included extensive travel and a Rotary Faculty Fellowship to teach at the Medical University of Southern Africa (MEDUNSA) in Ga-Rankuwa, South Africa. I have consulted with speech therapists in Kenya and Rwanda who conduct rural and urban practices. I am a member of Guyana's ASHA-PACO ad-hoc committee that developed the speech-language pathology and audiology program at the University of Guyana. My areas of research and publication include speech and language development in infants and children with HIV-AIDS, multicultural issues in language assessment, literacy development, and pediatric dysphagia. I served as a reviewer for ASHA's Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in the Schools. My service to ASHA includes membership in the convention program committee, the Multicultural Issues Board, the Ethics Board, and the chairperson of the Committee on Honors.
