The Application Process

To become Board Certified as a Specialist in Child Language (BCS-CL), you must:

• Demonstrate your advanced knowledge, skills, leadership, and experience in child language.
• Have been employed as a certified speech-language pathologist the equivalent of full time for five years.
• Hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) or an Equivalent Certification from a country having a mutual recognition agreement with ASHA.
• Document 100 hours of intermediate or advanced continuing education related to child language, within 10 years of applying.
  • CE activities must be at least 15 minutes in duration to count as a single activity.
  • No more than 10 hours associated with a single CE activity or approved technical training in a specific program/approach (such as LAMP, PECS, DIR Floortime, etc.) can be reported.
  • University courses will count for no more than 15 clock hours per course.
