After working for 12 years as a registered nurse in both adult and pediatric settings, Cecilia Navarra returned to school and obtained both her BA and MA from Queens College. Since then, she has worked in school, private practice, and home EI settings, with a focus on language and literacy development and disorders. Cecilia came "home" and joined the full-time faculty at QC in 2009. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in language development/disorders in addition to mentoring student clinicians at the campus Speech-Language Hearing Center. Cecilia particularly enjoys working with "twice-exceptional" children and adolescents to foster the development of theory of mind in the contexts of play and literature. Cecilia is grateful to the many children, mentors, and colleagues who have inspired her over the years, particularly, Dr. Sima Gerber and the late Joel Stark, both of whom have been uniquely instrumental in her thinking about language and literacy. Cecilia resides in the Hudson Valley with her husband, daughter, and three cats. She enjoys hiking, reading, and fostering kittens for a local nonprofit organization dedicated to finding homes for stray and abandoned cats.
